Summer Book Haul | 2017

So, I’ve started doing this thing on my blog, seasonal book hauls instead of monthly ones since I’m not buying as many books this year (read 5, buy 1 resolution). So, in this blog post I’m going through what I bought in June, July, and August.

I didn’t buy a single book this month. YAY!

I actually didn’t buy any books for the the entire month, but I did get 1 books for free (well 4 but three I’ve already gotten rid of) from our recycling centre where they have a small garage kind of building where you can leave things you don’t want but are whole and still usable, and take things for free if you find anything. All the books were in Swedish and three of them from Swedish authors. I forgot to take a photo of them (of course). But this is the one I kept of the four.

  • Playground by Lars Kepler (same name in English)

I was really good for the first half of the month (mainly because the trains into town weren’t going), and my parents were on vacation. But when they got home for a couple of days I went a little crazy when we went to my favorite second hand store and got 7 books for about $13.

2017-08-21 21.11.48

  • I found the white edition of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and just had to have it. It’s just so beautiful and I never thought I would ever see one, even less in a second hand store here in Sweden.
  • Lejontämjaren by Camilla Läckberg (The Ice Child in English)
  • Den Osynlige Mannen från Salem by Christoffer Carlsson (The Invisible Man from Salem in English)
  • A Feast for Crows by George R R Martin
  • Twenties Gil by Sophie Kinsela
  • Hopeless by Colleen Hoover
  • The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner by Stephenie Meyer

That’s it for this seasonal haul. I’m actually really surprised that I haven’t gotten more books than I did, especially bought books. But in September I bet I’m going to crack completely, I can feel it coming and it wouldn’t surprise me since it’s been so long (apart from my August haul) since I bought books, I already have a cart wainting for me to confirm my order 😉

Spring Book Haul | 2017

So, this new thing I’m trying on my blog is a seasonal book haul instead of a monthly since I’m not buying as many books this year (read 5, buy 1 resolution). Although, So, in this post I’m going through what I bought in March, April and May.

5th of Marsh
So, I went a bit rough during the huge February book sales we have here in Sweden every year. I bought 8 books just from the sale in the beginning of mars.

During the first weekend of mars my mom and I went into town for some book shopping and just walk around, it was a lot of fun. I knew I was going to get a few books from the sale, but also which books I wanted to get for my birthday money I got from my parents, these I’ve already shared in my Birthday book haul post in March. So we went to my favorite bookstore where I got two of the three books on sale that I wanted, the third was out of stock. These two books were:

2017-03-11 16.46.39

  • Dorothy must die stories, vol. 2 by Danielle Page – Got it for around $4 instead of about $12 in paperback
  • Conjuror by John & Carole Barrowman – Got this book for around $7, originally around $22, hardback

After we were done at this store we went to the maybe biggest bookstore in Scandinavia, and I got a few books from there too. There was one book I really wanted to get but it was out of stock everywhere, so I haven’t had the chance to get it, I’m going to another store in the same store chain and hope they have it in. The books I got this time from the sale was:

2017-03-11 16.45.46

  • Written in my own hearts blood by Diana Gabaldon for about $4 instead of around $15.
  • Lyckan i det lilla by  Ernst Kirchsteiger (happiness in the little things) for about $6 instead of at least $22
  • Maggans lilla starksköra by Maggan Hägglund (about being  strong and brittle at the same time – has to do with being Highly Sensitive) for about $5 instead of around $18

8th of March
So, I was bad. I just ordered 2 more books for myself, one on sale and one that wasn’t, I paid full price for that one. All of them are in Swedish without English titles:

2017-03-15 17.46.20

  • Pensionatet vid världens ände by Camilla Davidsson (bought it hardback since I only have it in mass market paperback and I love this series so much that I want all books in hardback) – got this for around $7 instead of $19
  • Den sovande spionen by Camilla Grebe &  Paul Leander-Engström – The third and final book in a trilogy, in hardback – paid full price for this one.

14th of March
Wow, just bought 3 more books off the sale, since there was a 30% of the sale price I just couldn’t resist:

2017-03-15 17.46.53.jpg

  • Hjärtat i vår vänskap by Anna Gavalda (Billie is the English title) sale price was about $7, and 30% of that
  • Livet, motorcyklar och andra omöjliga projekt by Katarina Bivald (no English title available), sale price was about $7, and 30% of that.
  • Elva dagar i Berlin by Håkan Nesser (no English title available) sale price was about $7, and 30% of that

25th of March
So, going to second-hand shops and immediately finding the book corners aren’t ultimate if you are having a book-buying goal. I went with my family for an outing and found two books I’ve been looking for. I got both of them for about $1,50.

2017-03-27 22.53.29

  • Ten little niggers by Agatha Christie. I really wanted the book with the original title and found it.
  • Det som inte dödar oss by David Lagercrantz, the fourth book in the Millenium series (originally by Stieg Larsson) (English title: The Girl in the Spider’s Web)

April 29th
So, my mom and I went to the next town over to visit a second-hand shop to look for some books that we were missing from a series. We did find them (but they belong to mom so they’re not in this haul). I found four other books I have been looking for, my mom was kind enough to get them for me, all in Swedish and in paperback, but still. Three of them are part 3-5 of a series I own the first two books of and the fourth book I got is the fourth book in the Joona Linna series by Lars Kepler. So the books I got was:

2017-05-06 21.53.37

  • Svek by Karin Alvtegen (Betrayal in English)
  • Skam by Karin Alvtegen (Shame in English)
  • Skugga by Karin Alvtegen (Shadow in English)
  • Sandmannen by Lars Kepler (The Sandman in English)

May 7th

I only bought 1 book this month, which is really good for being me, since, well, I know myself.

I found the third book, Änglarna Dansar i Gryningen, in the Vintergatans Alla Sjärnor by Camilla Davidsson series in hardback online, on sale. So I just had to. And since it’s a replacement for a paperback it doesn’t count as a bought book, not really ^^. Oh how I love that cover!

2017-05-22 21.59.45

May 16th

So, I did… something, yeah let’s just call it that, something. Facebook sells pages for books are bad, especially when you find books you’ve wanted to read for years. So, yeah, I got 12 books.

The first two books, from a separate seller than the other ones, were:

2017-05-21 10.22.47

  • Nevermore by Kelly Creagh
  • Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver

Then I got 10 other books from the second seller:

2017-05-26 18.20.17

  • Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols
  • Impulse by Ellen Hopkins
  • Memoires of a Teenage Amnesiac by Gabrielle Zevin
  • Lock & Key by Sarah Dessen
  • Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin
  • Two-Way Street by Lauren Barnholdt
  • Just Listen by Sarah Dessen
  • This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen
  • Dark Visions by L J Smith
  • DUFF by Kody Keplinger

This haul threw everything about my book buying resolution I made in the beginning of this year, to hell since I wasn’t supposed to bu a book until I read five and I could buy 2 books, not 12, but I also read more than 5 books in May, so I need to read 45 books before I ca buy anymore. But that probably won’t last long if I know myself correctly, lol.

Well, that’s all for the Spring Book Haul. Read on 🙂

August Book Haul | 2016

2016-09-01 20.43.40-2

I’ve been really bad this month. Since I’m not supposed to buy one book before reading one and I’ve read less than I’ve bought (only like 3 books or so, but still).

These first couple of books I actually got for free, so I’m not counting them to the bunch in the ”read one buy one”-thing.

  • Atonement by Ian McEwan
  • Book Yourself Solid by Michael Port (a business book)

Then the bad part started. As I’ve written in the earlier posts I’ve been really into contemporary YA, and I only had two books left in the beginning of the month, so I decided to go to Book Depository and buy a couple, but ended up buying 7!

  • The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate (which I’ve already read)
  • The Distance Between Us by Katie West
  • I’ll Meet You There by Heather Demetrios
  • The Boy Most Likely To by Huntley Fitzpatrick (which I’ve also already read)
  • When We Collided by Emery Lord
  • Until Friday Night by Abbi Glines
  • The Start of Me and You by Emery Lord

Only the ones I’ve read above had gotten to me when I went to my parents summer place for the last two weeks of august so I needed to get at least one or two books that I could read before going home again since the ones I brought wouldn’t last. We went into town on a rainy day, where I ended up going to a second-hand store where they had 3 paperbacks for about a $1, so I got 6 of them (of course), since, as I said, needed a couple of books before going home.

  • 31 Dream Street by Lisa Jewell
  • Anybody Out There by Marian Keyes
  • A Hundred Pieces of Me by Lucy Dillon
  • The Ballad of Lee Cotton by Christopher Wilson
  • An Englishman in New York by Ann-Marie Casey
  • En man som heter Ove (A Man Named Ove in English) by Fredrik Backman

I’m sure I’m going to be better in September since I’ve trashed my book buying promise for this year for sure, I still have a few books I need to get to finish some of the series I have in my 2016 bookish resolutions, but that’s it. I’ll have to be content with the books I have at home.

Take care 🙂

July Book Haul | 2016

I was surprisingly good in the month of July, even though I wanted to buy many more than I did, as always. I only bought these 6 books.

2016-08-04 12.23.45-1

My mom surprised me with a trip into town on the first Monday of July, and we went to my favorite bookstore here in Stockholm and of course I had to get a couple of books.

  • Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J K Rowling
  • Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J K Rowling

In the beginning of the second week my dad and I went to donate some random stuff and naturally we went inside the store and I found three books I never thought I’d find in a swedish second hand store:

  • Pretty Girl-13 by Liz Coley
  • Wings by Aprilynne Pike
  • I also found an ARC of 13 little blue envelopes by Maureen Johnson

And at the end of the month my mom bought a few paperbacks from our local grocery store since her vacation is about to start and she wanted something to read, when we came home she realized one of them was the third book in a series so she bought the first and second book online, where I decided to buy one as well since there was a sequel in a swedish feel-good trilogy I needed to read. So I bought that one.

  • Pensionatet vid världens ände by Camilla Davidsson.

So, I’d say I did quite well in July, let’s see what August will bring, I can only guess that I’m not going to be as good, I just have a feeling. Take care 🙂

April, May & June Book Haul | 2016

Well, this hasn’t happened before in my time since I found BookTube. Ever since I did I have bought several books every single month, but now this happened. In April I bought 1 book and ordered 1 but it didn’t arrive until May so I’ll count it as an April purchase since it was payed during that month. I didn’t buy any books in May since I was saving up money for my London trip in the end of the month.

Books I bought in April:

2016-06-14 13.53.17

  • Odinsbarn by Siri Pettersen
  • Through the Ever Night by Veronica Rossi

As mentioned above I didn’t buy any books in May since I was saving up money for my London trip, but while there I went completely loose, lol. I decided to only buy books that I couldn’t find in the physical Swedish bookstores since I like to get books mostly from those. Almost all of the books I bought in London were from Foyles, only one I bought from a second hand store (which I don’t remember the name of unfortunately) but it was on the same street. So, these are the books I bought on my trip to London:

2016-06-07 10.20.16-1

  • Just One Day by Gayle Forman
  • More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera
  • Tonight the Streets Are Ours by Leila Sales
  • Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Page
  • Forbidden by Tabatha Suzuma
  • The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson
  • The Summer I Turned Pretty bind-up of all 3 books by Jenny Han
  • Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
  • Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
  • Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin (which was bought from the second hand store for £3).

And while me and my mother were at the Warner Bros. Studios I also bought the first Harry Potter Book in this beautiful edition ^^.

2016-07-05 18.12.32

Last haul for June
I have to admit I was a bit bad in the end of June, I bought four more books, all contemporary because that’s all I want to read at the moment and seems like the only books I can read through entirely without falling asleep or taking forever to get through, or putting down and not pick it up again. These are the ones I bought:

  • Just One Year by Gayle Forman
  • My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick
  • Open Road Summer by Emery Lord
  • The Fill-In Boyfriend by Kasie West

2016-07-05 18.24.34

So, that’s all the books I’ve bought the last few months. And as of yesterday , I already have a July (maybe July/August book haul) started *oops*. But yeah, that was all for now. See ya! 🙂

February & Birthday Book Haul | 2016

February is over (wow, where has this month gone?), during this month I have accumulated quite a few books. In total, with books I got as birthday presents, books I got from the huge February book sale that’s going on right now across the country and books I bought myself, I got 27 books(!!).. Wow, I didn’t realize how many I actually got until I counted them right this minute. Four of those I got as birthday present for myself, one from my brother, six from my mom and dad (even though it was mom I was shopping with), and if I’m not mistaken the rest of the books are from the huge book sale which either I bought myself or mom bought for me.

So, lets start this thing. I will start with the books I got as a birthday present, either from myself, my brother and parents (because nobody else ever gets me books as presents).

The books I got for myself are, Storm Front by Jim Butcher (book 1 in the Dresden Files series), A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas, In the Afterlight by Alexandra Bracken, the 3rd book in the Darkest Minds trilogy and Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi, the first book in the trilogy with the same name. From my brother I got The Martian by Andy Wier, which I specifically told him he was going to get me since he never has an idea what to buy. And from my parents I got YOU by Caroline Kepnes, Unforgiven by Lauren Kate, the 5th book in the Fallen Series, Requiem (this is 3rd and last book in the Delirium trilogy) and The Delirium Stories (novellas) by Lauren Oliver, A Darker Shade of Magic by V. E. Schwab and Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson, the 1st book in The Remnant Chronicles. Requiem and The Delirium Stories were bought from the book sale as well.

From the huge book sale I bought some books myself, these are (some of the titles are in Swedish): Article 5 and Three by Kristen Simmons, book 1 and 3 in Article 5 trilogy, The Girl of Fire and Thorns Stories (novellas) by Rae Carson, Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, Virkning – 200 frågor och svar (Crochet – 200 questions and answers), Paganinikontraktet by Lars Kepler (The Nightmare in English), Mirakelverkstaden by Valérie Tong Cuong (there’s no translated title in English for this book what I can find), Shopaholic to the Stars by Sophie Kinsella, the 7th book in the Shopaholic series. I also bought the graphic novel Berättelser från Engelsfors (and also an in-between story in the Engelsfors trilogy, in Swedish) The last book I bought on sale was Stjärnklart by Lars Wilderäng (also no translated title for this book).

Now for the book sale books my mom bought for me: United States of Cakes by Roy Fares (a recipe book in Swedish, also available in English with the same name), Love Letters: 200 years of Romance by the British Library, To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf, Catch-22 by Joseph Heller, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald (which I already read, during last year in a different edition), and As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner. The last four books are from the Vintage Classics Editions.

I think that was all of them, I’m not sure if I have forgotten a book or two somewhere but I think this is all of them. I have by this time finished Gone Girl, and I’m in the middle of YOU, and I am also really looking forward to reading In the Afterlight, Paganinikontraktet and Storm Front most of all of these. But of course I want to get to all of them at some point during this year 🙂

Because of this huge book haul I can’t buy another book until I’ve read at least 9 books since I have to read one book to buy one (one of my goals for this year) so until then I’m definitely on a book buying ban, which I am going to keep this time around for sure ^^

I hope you enjoyed this post even though it was brief without any synopses or explanations. Take care dear readers 🙂
